FAQ

Does the course work on mobile?

Yes! Just load the website in your phone's browser and login just as you would on desktop. All your videos and your current progress will be available!

Is the course self-paced?

Yep! All material is prerecorded, uploaded, and organized for your convenience. Feel free to watch on your own time, and rewatch whenever you like!

Do I need Final Cut Pro?

I demonstrate all of the setup and editing in Final Cut Pro. Most editing softwares are generally pretty similar. While some of the buttons, features, layouts, and names of things will be different in other softwares, you'll still gain a ton from the strategy and process of editing. The way I edit these films works well across multiple platforms. You may just need to spend a little extra time learning the exact buttons you need to press in your software to do it. And I recommend getting Final Cut Pro, because it's just one price, one time, and you own it forever. They regularly update it for free, too!

Do I need a DJI Ronin gimbal?

There are multiple gimbals on the market, but DJI makes the best one in my opinion. It's what most professionals are using, and it's what I teach the course on. But if you're familiar with another gimbal, you can use it!

But you will really want a gimbal at some point during the course. Gimbals have opened up the world of portable creative filmmaking movement, and that movement is essential to getting those cinematic shots. That said, if you have a way you like to shoot without one, then you'll still get a ton from the course when it comes to the classroom instruction, theory, and editing!

Which Ronin should I get?

The best thing to do is weigh your camera and lens setup and then look for the Ronin that supports that payload (DJI lists that in their specs). Note that, if you're using a mirrorless camera with a lens adapter, you'll likely need a larger gimbal to compensate for the extra length.

And the numbers on them are just the model generations. So the 4 is newer than the 3, for example. But you really don't need the latest one. I still use the original Ronin S and it works great for my camera rigs. I actually strip off all the extras from the gimbal anyway. So you can find an older and/or used gimbal and be just fine, assuming it supports the weight.

That said, you also can't go too large, but you CAN go too small. If the bigger ones are in budget, just get one, and then you won't have anything to worry about!

You can find the Ronin here: https://click.dji.com/ACS43u-qZxWOCdJjd-YD3w?pm=link

Do you provide sample footage to practice with?

Yes! I've made all the footage that I shot during the shooting portion available for download! You can play around with it, follow along during the editing portion, and practice cutting together a video!

Is group coaching necessary?

I recommend the online group coaching to anyone who's really ready to lock in this new skill and start selling videos. From personal experience, developing and successfully implementing new skills happens a lot faster and easier with an expert in the field available for support. It's also why most of the world's most successful people have coaches!

Do you include commercial video lessons?

While I reference commercial video here and there, it's a more complicated topic that's outside the scope of this course. But! This course is a great introduction to creating professional video, and will act as a baseline that you can build on to start offering video to commercial clients. A lot of my students have started getting requests from local business about video after they started sharing their senior film work, and you can certainly apply the skills you'll learn in the course to a lot of commercial video opportunities.

Also, if you're signed up for coaching, I'm happy to answer any questions you have about commercial work, and help you on that path if you want!
